Sleep, Josh Martinez and DJ Zone are the original Chicharones, but they will be traveling with a drummer and abass/guitar player for their summer tour in 2010. Spin recently called The Chicharones, “The Best Bar Band in North America.” It’s easy to see why. Expect 5-part harmonies, a razor tight band, costume changes, syncopated dance moves, stage magic, standup comedy and the joyful interplay of 10 year veteran performers Sleep and Josh Martinez. And there’s also rap.

The new full length album is almost finished. Its called Swine Flew (Over the Coocoo’s Nest) and its about as great as effusive praise can make it. There’s a ton of dates here and there and you’ll hear more from us in the near future about the progress of the Chichis.

The Chicharones, composed of Sleep of Oldominion and Josh Martinez, have kept fans, tour action, sales, and respect during a 3 year group hiatus, between solo releases. Since releasing their last album When Pigs Fly (Camobear Records 2006), they have toured
the world ten times over, collaborated with the whos who of underground pop, released solo albums and become international celebrities. Back together, after a messy break up, the bromance is on and popping and at long last, the greatChicharones have returned!
Following the rich tradition of mixing hip hop balls with the shiny pretty ones we hang on trees this time of year (think Run D.M.C. CHRISTMAS IN HOLLIS, Kurtis Blow CHRISTMAS RAPPIN and Bad Lucc’s MY LITTLE MAMA TRIPPIN ON XMAS, holiday debauchery has never sounded more badass! Keeping with the spirit of thrift and a punk rock DIY ethos thatCamobear artists have come to be known for, the entire song, from beat to lyrics and mixing, was done in less than 24 hours. The video was shot the very next day. With a shoe-string budget and on the fly production (costumes were bought from Goodwill, tags still attached), you can only imagine the amount of eggnogg that must have been consumed to pull off such an endeavor.
But could you expect anything less from The Chicharones? I mean, really?
So go pour yourself a nice tall glass of eggnogg and prepare for the Christmas rapfest to begin.
